It may last longer, but why do we only guarantee one year? Because 12 months is how long we’re comfortable guaranteeing that the tape will stay securely in place. After that, the adhesive may gradually lose some of its tack, while dirt, moisture, temperature and general wear and tear can all affect how well it remains attached. Does that mean it suddenly stops working after 365 days? No. Under the right conditions, you may get considerably longer from it. We simply don’t think it’s fair to promise something we can’t confidently guarantee.

TEMPERATURE AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
At what temperatures can DTX Tape be left in place on gas pipes? DTX Tape is suitable for continuous use on pipes and fittings at temperatures up to 50°C.
Can I use DTX Tape on hotter pipes? Yes, but only for a short-term leak spot checks. Prolonged exposure to temperatures above 50°C can affect the tape’s chemistry, causing permanent yellowing even when no CO₂ leak is present. This may create a false-positive indication, so DTX Tape should not be left in place for continuous monitoring above 50°C.
Can DTX Tape be used outdoors? Yes—for shorter-term leak checks, with more frequent inspection and replacement. UV exposure and heat can fade the tape’s colour and reduce how long it stays securely attached to pipes. In direct sunlight, you’ll need to apply fresh tape more frequently. It may remain suitable for days or even weeks, depending on UV exposure and conditions, rather than lasting a full year. Check it regularly and replace it if the colour fades or the tape begins to lift. For longer-term use, DTX Tape is recommended for indoor applications, where our 12-month guarantee applies when installed and used as directed.
What other conditions can affect its response? Dust, rust and other particles may slow the colour change. The tape should still respond to CO₂ if it becomes wet, although environmental and operating conditions can affect overall performance. Do not apply it to freshly painted pipes, as this may cause permanent yellowing or detection failure.
AFTER APPLICATION
What happens after the leak is fixed? The colour response is reversible. Once the CO₂ flow has stopped, the tape should return from yellow to purple within one hour.
Can removed tape be reapplied? Yes, DTX Tape can be reapplied. However, we recommend using a fresh length for the best adhesion and performance. Removed tape may have picked up dust or other foreign particles and lost some of its tack, affecting how securely it bonds when reapplied.
How should a repair be confirmed? Remove the tape before confirming the repair using the appropriate leak-testing procedure, as DTX Tape may reduce or redirect the flow of escaping gas. Once the repair is confirmed, we recommend applying a fresh length of tape if continued monitoring is required.
SAFETY AND PRODUCT LIMITATIONS
Does DTX Tape replace a CO₂ alarm? No. DTX Tape is a supplementary, localised visual indicator. It is not a CO₂ alarm, personal-safety monitor or life-safety device and must not replace required gas-detection equipment, ventilation or safety systems.
Does DTX Tape prevent or repair leaks? No. DTX Tape is a visual indicator that changes colour to indicate that CO₂ may be leaking from the joint where it is applied. The tape itself does not prevent, contain or repair a leak.
Can it detect gases other than CO₂? No. DTX Tape is intended only for carbon dioxide. Exposure to NOx or SOx gases may cause permanent yellowing.
